Dealing with such an awful situation alone would have been extremely difficult. Even more so in these covid times. I found the practical advice, moral support and having someone neutral but sympathetic to talk to in valuable. My thanks to the hospital team and my counsellor.

It was a lot more support than i even expected, I can not think of any thing else that you could have done in the circumstances.

All of us as a family were very satisfied with your service and could not have coped without you. You were amazing, compassionate, understanding and created her with the greatest respect. Thank you so much.

We did sent the staff a present and we do not know whether the staff room received it or not because we have not received a thank you letter. It was an espresso machine for the staff room. Would be nice to know whether you received it. We are not looking for any particular gratitude for our present but it is nice to maintain a good relationship with the people we so respected for the care they provided and a recognition of the present would complete the package. Kind Regards

My therapist was Pippa Ford. She was calm, kind, and listened attentively. She unravelled helplessness, sadness, loss, grief, fear, loneliness, confusion and lots of other emotions that accompany watching a parent die a slow, painful death. At the end of eight sessions, I was able to view my personal situation in a calmer frame of mind, and feeling that I can manage at least for the short term. I was able to get past the loss, and see the positives about the departed. Providing hospice at home care for a terminally sick parent is a harrowing experience, and nothing prepares you for it other than previous experience. I learnt the term cachexia from Joel on the hospice hotline. Looking back, you need someone with clinical directness with a mixture of compassion and empathy to help carers through a difficult time. Some days I didn't know where to turn, and being able to speak to someone at the end of the telephone really helped. Joel was great and he called every day to check on me. Simply knowing that some deaths are painful and lingering, was already helpful. I needed to know my parent wasn't singled out, or suffered unnecessarily. I wanted to speak to someone such as a nurse, who had witnessed death to know what was "normal", but that wasn't possible during lockdown. I don't think I would have managed emotionally without the support of St Peters. Thank you St Peters.

All staff regardless of position are kind and respectful and nothing is too much trouble in the hospital. My community nurse Jane Jones is fantastic, she has been my community nurse for over 4 years. We have such a good raport and have built-in trusting relationship she is kind and caring and sorts everything out for me. She is 100%
