My sister in law was cared for initially via palliative care nurse who visited at home & was going to care at home, but decision was made for her to move to the hospice. Majority of staff were very kind & caring. One night my sister in law was found on the floor & had fallen out of bed trying to reach the toilet. Staff were unsure how long she may have been laying on the floor in her urine. She was moved to another room closer to the nurses station after that. As her health deteriorated & she became less conscious, her daughter discovered her in bed which she had both wet & soiled. The staff attended to my sister in law as soon as they were alerted. They were kind to visitors & of course their patient, but at times seemed very busy & rushed off their feet. The night my sister in law died was very difficult as the staff tried to attend other patients whilst trying to make my sister in law as comfortable as possible which was very difficult for them to do. The hospice has beautiful gardens, marvellous food, open access to inpatient visitors 24 hours per day & dying there is considerably better than being on a hospital ward.
