I attended St Mark's Hospital which is attached to Northwick Park on Monday 30th November for a procedure to remove unwanted polyps. At the outset the reception greeted me with a smile therefore putting me at ease. She asked if I knew where I was going and gave me directions with the utmost courtesy thereby putting me at ease. I was met by another friendly face who took me to the Endoscopy Department. She also gave me a few reassuring words. The Endoscopy Receptionist booked me in with a friendly smile and directed me to a waiting area. After a short while another Member of the Team sought to reassure me and asked the necessary questions. So far so good I was feeling completely relaxed. Before my procedure the Colonoscopist introduced herself and reassured me that I had nothing to worry about and informed me that she would be carrying out the procedure and asked me a few general questions about myself thereby putting me completely at ease. We walked - socially distanced of course - to the area where the procedure would be performed. When I entered the room where the procedure was due to be performed she introduced me to the other 5 Members of her Team who all greeted me and made me feel very comfortable indeed. I was completely relaxed. I have to say that throughout the procedure I was asked countless times how I was feeling and always reassured that everything would be fine. The other Members of her Team also chipped in at various times to enquire about my welfare and comfort. One thing that particularly impressed me was not only the cleanliness of the area throughout, including the recovery area, but how relaxed the Colonoscopist was and how she continued dialogue with the Team throughout the procedure. I was able to watch the procedure and to ask questions which were honestly answered. When it was all over I thanked the Team. They really were very efficient and not only a credit to the Hospital but the NHS as a whole. I never thought that I would ever say this but I really am looking forward to my follow up appointment next year. Let me say this "Whatever they get paid it is not enough"
