The service gave me the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings I had about the relationship I’d had with my mum and to feel okay about it not always having been positive. I felt able to express myself without fear of recrimination and to talk openly - something I haven’t been able to do with my dad and sister.

I was surprised in the first session to have the floor thrown open to me and to be asked what I would like to talk about. I didn’t feel prepared for this and had expected the counsellor to suggest a starting point based on our assessment session. It seemed to work though and allowed me to open up about all sorts of things that had troubled and confused me since childhood.
