Great help always
I have received first class treatment from Gill and Louise and I now class them as friends. They are fantastic sources of information about Stoma and how to manage the condition. I was given a fantastic briefing by Gill before surgery and Louise was brilliant with me when I was recovering on the ward. I have had several issues since I came out of hospital and they have always helped me out. Nothing has been too much trouble and they have endless patience.
I cannot praise them enough.
Over the past few years I have had difficulties to overcome ie stage4 bowel cancer, chemo, and catheterising all the time. However none of these were as traumatic as waking up having to manage a stoma. After a few sleepless nights I met Harrogate nurses Louise and Gill who immediately wiped away all fears and worries.I now realise that managing a stoma is not a simple operation;it is quite complicated and requires careful management.particularly over the first number of weeks.Expert guidance is a necessity.
I am most grateful for the help and kindness I am now receiving from the Harrogate nurses;it is comforting to know that they are there should things go wrong.
Louise was so knowledgeable and patient. She helped me to build my confidence and encouraged me to be as independent as possible. Lots of information was provided to read as I felt able to do so.
As ever Gill and Lucy treated me with respect, care and empathy and looked for solutions and alternatives for dealing with the discharge from my fistula. A real credit to the hospital.
With regard to the community Stoma nurse service I have received so far, has been very good indeed always on hand and ready to do extra visits if needed and guidance with stoma care and very very caring.
I had a series of leaks from my Ileostomy that resulted in nsome raw skin and I was unable to attach my appliance.I rang an old number I had for the local Stoma nurse and was connected to Harriet. I explained the situation and she was with me in 2 hours.
She recommended a solution, and as we were travelling to a wedding in the South of England reassured me it should be ok.
She phoned that evening to check I was ok.
I was followed up by Lisa a few days later who introced a seaweek dressing and over the coming days this accelerated the healing process and afgter 13 days it has almost healed completed.
I have had my Ileostomy almost 30 years and I am still using the 2 piece system that was recommended after the surgery. I had some discussions with Lisa and after trying a one piece system am inteding switching once I have used up my exisiting stock.
Katie is a fantastic nurse, very supportive, knowledgeable and kind
