Was transferred here from Frimley Park for potential dialysis, which Frimley don't curr do, this hospital is the polar opposite of Frimley. The staff were very overstretched at one time taking 9 minutes to answer a call bell, yes I timed it, a couple of times I was vomiting badly and we were on the edge of pulling the major alert bell when someone finally arrived, there seemed to be little care, I was located close to a nurses station but paperwork seemed more important than answering a bell. On Castle ward only the night staff ever checked on you regularly. The consultants seemed quite arrogant particularly the head respiratory consultant The staff on respiratory seemed with 3 exceptional not to know how to treat my condition and had no knowledge of CFRD,
The staff were thoughtful, friendly and helpful. The site was clean, pleasant, cool on a sultry day.
I was diagnosed with a blood cancer 6 years ago. My treatment was first class.
I was appointed a specialist nurse to help me through the treatments that followed. I ended up having a bone marrow transplant at Oxford (Equally as good)
Once i became an out patient I had equally good treatment through 'West Ward'. The staff were not only caring but went out their way to explain the treaments. At no time did I feel neglected or ignored.
My only slight criticisms would be with the Consultants who seem to choose the treatments I should have without fully talking about any other options that I may have had.
Understaffed, staff too tired to deal with all the patients.
Some of the staff (foreigners) are not well trained.
