1. The underlying ethos is characterized by a tripartite partnership - physical/mental/spiritual - The medical and meal held together. 2. The whole family is drawn in gradually and all, if local, are treated by the nurse as partners rather than interested spectators. 3. The nurse is of course not just a medical figure but also a companion on the journey through perplexity and pain. 4. The relationship with the residential facility is not just for those who may be near the point of death but also supports the patient when a few days of respite are needed or intensive monitoring to provide data for treatment, assessment and adjusting medication.
