Fell and broke my hip in a local restaurant. I couldn't move and was in terrible pain. Ambulance arrived within minutes. Pain relief given and taken to Rotherham Hospital. Ambulance staff, kind, considerate, professional and very reassuring. Taken to A & E. staff there were again wonderful. Not much of a wait. Doctor was quick to diagnose and give me a probable outcome of treatment and longer term prognosis. X rays done and pain block administered. Nursing and health care staff kept me positive. Admitted to ward about 1:30am. Total hip replacement done at 1:30pm, under a spinal anaesthetic. I was awake the whole time. I was terrified, (I am a worrier) but for no reason. Massive thanks to the theatre staff. The anaesthetist explained everything and reassured me the whole way through. The nursing staff, who actually made me laugh a some point, and as well as being totally professional managed to keep me distracted. I felt nothing at all during the procedure, dozed off to sleep for a while, and it all passed very quickly. The surgeons have done a truly amazing job. I am home and walking round the house and up and down stairs without crutches only 10 days after the op. Back on the wards I cannot praise enough the team that cared for me until I was discharged. Extremely professional, extremely kind and patient beyond belief. We could all learn a lot from them. Finally a special thank you to the ward clerk who went out of her way to make sure all my paperwork was done so that I could sort out insurances, Westfield and stuff when I got home. Rotherham Hospital you are simply the best. God bless you and God please bless our NHS.
