From the moment I attended Queen Alexndra for hip replacement the care and attention I received was brilliant. From D5 ward to the operating room the nurses and Mr Kane's team were excellent as was my operation. The nurses in the recovery ward were very caring and assuring. Also the physiotherapists were great too. All in all my stay in Q.A hospital was very pleasant and would have no hesitation in my having to have treatment there again.

I was seen by Jean for approximately one hour. It was not rushed, seemed to be very thorough, and was a very friendly atmosphere.

Review of Pre-op assessment Outpatient Area written by a patient

So far I am completely satisfied with the kindness of the Staff and the efficiency of the system. I didn't have to wait too long in 5 different areas/departments for attention or procedures to take place today.

Review of D5 written by a patient
17th December 2018

From the time I was admitted I was treated with care and attention. The nurses on the ward were great and received very good treatment. The operating team and Mr Kane were all excellent and made me feel very relaxed. Also the recovery ward and the physiotherapists were patient and very caring. I hadn't stayed in hospital for a very long time and had the best care and attention. Am extremely happy to have been looked after so well for my hip replacement. Thank you sincerely. Jeannette Swan

Review of MIU written by a patient

Seen quickly ,vwithin 15 minutes of arrival. Clean spacious clinic. Nurse practitioner was very helpful, and I left with dressing, antobios and doing and a feeling of being well looked after. GMI would be my first choice if appropriate.

Review of D5 written by a patient
14th December 2018

Even though my time at D5 was great, there were a few things that happened which could have been improved on. Firstly I could not understand why the nurses change to different wards. As a patient I would have preferred not to have to explain what had happened each time a new nurse came on shift and also what my needs were. It definitely made it more difficult for me. Some of the nurse would make more of an effort than others. During my time on the ward there was a couple nurses and assistants who when they I asked if I could get help with a wash would just leave me with the water and wipes. Bearing in mind I was hooked up to a PCA machine which meant that I could not remove my t-shirt, I had to wait again for help with it. Had I had the same nurses then they would not have had this problem. Also I had a PCA machine attached to me, after a while I knew when it was about to run out so I would inform the nurses so that they could make sure another one was ready. On 2 or 3 occasions I had to wait nearly 3 hours before they got a refill. A few times it turned out that the prescription had to rewritten so a doctor was needed. I think that if the nurses had listened to me and if when they refilled one and it was the last one, they should have checked with the doctor if it needed to be refilled.

Review of Day Surgery Unit written by a patient
14th December 2018

I can’t praise the staff enough for my care from start to finish. From the nurses when I arrived, then the theatre staff who were brilliant at putting me at ease, the surgeon who did a great job and the nurses who looked after me as I had stay in overnight. And last but not least the lady who pushed me from Ward E2 to the Discharge Unit in a wheelchair and was very happy to do so. I thank everyone for what you did and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy New Year.
