Once I got over the major hurdles of the guard-dog making telephone appointments; and not being allowed to book in until 5 minutes before my appointment time, the clinical care I received was excellent - caring, professional and very helpful. The doctor did not appear to resent in any way having to spend time with me, which I was very grateful for, given the attitude of the telephone triage nurse yesterday. Incidentally, a smile from staff who deal with you at reception, or with whom you happen to cross eyes as they walk through, wouldn't go amiss either. It makes no sense to have to book an appointment to be seen at casualty and, especially as I was there early in the morning whilst it was still fairly quiet, booking me in when I arrived (and other people who were similarly made to wait) would have cleared the decks for any major traumas or other emergencies that occurred today. A blanket rule doesn't work and, in any case, it is only a way of fudging the 4-hour casualty KPI. Thank you very much to the nurse and doctor who cared for me.
