During my initial assessment for Autism I was under the care of Nurse Sharon Perks, she took the initiative after noticing that I displayed all the visible symptoms of ADHD and offered an in depth analysis which led to diagnosis. Since being diagnosed and prescribed medicines to control ADHD I have realised that I was never suffering from depression as such, but severe ADHD. My life has been completely changed by Nurse Sharon Perks initiative in offering help and I can now function fully with a full time job. After the initial observation I was referred to Dr Jennifer Hyland. She was extremely understanding, comforting, empathic and thorough. I received my diagnosis for autism with a highly detailed report of all symptoms displays and a educational package to give to my family to help them understand what that means and how they can help me in my ongoing struggle with day to day life. Overall, 10/10. I feel the staff went above and beyond to make me feel like I am a normal human being that can get better, and can thrive in society. I can't possibly thank them enough, my life has changed for the better forever.

The Consultant I saw was extremely judgemental. I got the feeling she'd rather be anywhere but doing her job. Didn't have a pleasant manner, extremely judgemental and there was no therapeutic rapport whatsoever. Do every one of your patients a favour and stay home and play with your kids! You work part-time and are not available on Mondays. The worst Dr I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.

The staff on Affric Ward were always friendly, supportive and kind each time I visited my relative. I was invited to case reviews as long as my relative was ok with that, communication was excellent.

Be very careful, were you made aware of assessment and did any assessments take place you were not aware were assessments (clip boards, more people) did you feel more sedated than usual, perhaps a lot more and 1.5 hours after your morning medicine, did you sense the consultant may be aware your very sedated and do you question where would the benifit lie? This is my experience of a voluntery patient, very dark experience I am glad I was able to leave

My dad is being cared for here, he is very sick. Dad lead a very active life climbing the hills and even Ben Nevis, untill recent health issues kicked in and left us all devastated. I New Craig’s for updates and always receive great compassion and detailed progress reports from the staff. I am never made to feel like I need to hurry and get off the phone. Staff realise the circumstances and are very obligingly helpful. The Drs are wonderful and they are very easy to talk to, they also show great empathy towards my dad and our current situation. The hospital are diligent to look at every thing they can to treat serious illness. The team at New Craig’s treat everyone on their merits, and if you’re lucky enough to be sent home I’d say go count your blessings, as some patients like dad doesn’t even have the energy to walk right now. Thank you team at New Craig’s for your care and looking after Dad

Not give any dignity or respect, not involved in any way with my treatment. Just given a random diagnosis and told to leave more or less. No check ups nothing! Just left with a box of tablets. Pathetic. Then tried to complain, got thrown into the NHS complaint procedure that takes months to complete. No care, no compassion, just want you our the door. Next patient, what are these people getting paid for,not for doing their jobs anyway... No wonder their never out of the paper.

My wife was transferred by helicopter air ambulance, suffering a severe condition, with the potential to be life threatening. Thanks to Dr. Sundeep, Dr. Silvaswamy and the team of dedicated nurses and ancillary staff in Maree Ward, plus a course of ECT, she made a remarkable (I’m tempted to say miraculous) recovery. In my opinion, the treatment has not just saved her life, but given her back a great quality of life to be enjoyed. Having spent most of the daytime visiting with her during a month’s stay, I observed how the staff are giving patients a great deal of kindness, respect and dignity, which must contribute hugely to their recovery. I was also very impressed by the hospital environment - bright, cheerful, informal and extremely clean. We hope that New Craigs will, for many years to come, continue to offer the same feeling of sanctuary for patients and their families in the Highlands and Islands.
