Overall my care was excellent in the spinal unit and the staff delightful and so hard working. There were occasional issues when I needed pain relief and staff were just too overstretched. Once or twice there were problems with the less senior staff, mainly due to English not being their first language, when I had to complain to a sister. One occasion when someone was rude and shouted at me because I couldn’t turn over (wasn’t allowed to) to reach my bed control and did not help me. Those staff do not know what the patient’s condition is and it is not for them to say what someone can or cannot do. All the cleaners and those who helped at mealtimes were kind and cheerful. My only other issue was that I did not feel my occupational therapy was complete when I left and I could not do all that they said I should. It would be good to have had a working television in the room when I was lying on my back unable to read and more green vegetables and fruit in the diet!
