My care came at the night time after my partner had died - I had been to the 8 week bereavement course. My counsellor allowed me to set the theme for each session we met, and I found that urgent feelings came up unexpectedly and were not scheduled from the last session. She was empathetic, but steered me towards a way to resolve the problem - looked at it a different way, not just work on feelings. We used a book, I am following in the sessions and she encouraged me to continue the exercises at home. The sessions were led entirely by myself, and I consider this the key to success.
