Although the overall care was good, I felt left out of the loop. We arrived at 07-30. Eventually my son went down to theatre around noon. Not given an approximate theatre time. Not kept informed of any delay. So an 8 year old little boy with learning difficulties, was kept thirsty, and hungry. When I asked about the time, and how much longer? I was told they would ring to find out. Did anybody come, and inform me? No, I had to go, and ask again. On collecting him from the recovery room taking him back to the ward. The porter sped off, leaving the nurse, and myself some 10 yards behind the trolley. As he had vomited in recovery( so much we had to change his pyjamas on return to the ward ) I was concerned that if he vomited again we were too far away. The dedicated, so called, Theatre lift was being used by Laundry men, and cleaners. They had to be asked to get out so we could get in, but of course we then went down, and up stopping at every floor. As I said the overall care was good. Especially Megan the play leader. Excellent. His care after the operation was good, but parents do need to be kept infor.med
