When I visited the hospital it was extremely busy. In spite of this I felt all the staff were doing a very very good job in very difficult circumstances. Due to the sheer volume of patients from the entrance where ambulance services (who were also very courteous and caring) handed over patients to nursing staff was absolutely full right through out the hospital. From that area where I was for some hours itt was difficult to get attention for toilet needs, so I had to ask people who were there with their loved ones to ask for help from staff on my behalf. I genuinely believe though this was not due to staff being at all uncaring, they were simply working as hard and fast as they possibly were able. It was however worrying about not getting toileting needs met for longer than I was able to hold it. Also, once going to toilet it was difficult then to attract attention to get cannula!s for rehydration and pain relief drips reconnected. Overall however I feel all the staff I came into contact with treated me extremely well, and did that amazingly well in the circumstances they were all working!! I

Suggested improvements
I think perhaps having more health care assistants employed to work freely around the numerous area’s of the hospital where patients are waiting on trolleys , to help with these issues of toileting needs and reattaching of canulla’s , providing sick bowls etc, would be a very useful way of not adding to the enormous workload of the nursing staff .
