8th November 2015

On the 1st November 2015 I attended A&E for worsening stomach pains. Everyone who attended to me treated me with great care and compassion and I was soon admitted to a ward for further tests. Tests showed that I needed a cholecystectomy and this was scheduled for Tuesday 3rd. This was carried out and I was returned to the ward to recover. There were complications, the laparoscopic was converted to open surgery, so it took longer than anticipated, and I had a bigger scar too. My blood pressure and pulse dropped dramatically and I needed hourly obs the first night after the op. I was discharged on Friday 6th when they were satisfied that I felt able to cope at home. During my time on Deene A and Deene B wards I was treated exactly as I wanted to be. Mr Kelkar and team were very compassionate, listened to my concerns and kept me informed every step of the way. The staff on both wards were excellent, agency and full time, I couldn't have asked for better care, even when I whinged about being nil by mouth! Everyone worked tirelessly and cheerfully to meet all the patients needs despite being short staffed at times. The student nurses were excellent too, as were the theatre staff. All in all, a positive experience, thank you everyone :)
