The Hesketh Centre is notoriously poor at providing timely and appropriate treatment to patients who require immediate psychiatric review. Through both my professional and personal life, I have never heard a good word said about the teams based here, and I would strongly advise any patients or relatives to seek treatment elsewhere if possible (as you will indefinitely be seen quicker). The consultants appear to have no patient contact whatsoever, with poorly and inadequately trained nurse practitioners seeing the most vulnerable and emergent patients. It is not uncommon for phone calls not to be returned by any of the teams based here, despite several safety concerns being raised. It is but a matter of time before the CQC closes down this unit as it is unsafe, unfit for purpose and staffed by completely incompetent nurses and doctors. Often, patient care remains undocumented and advice given dangerous and ill-informed. I would urge any patients, relatives or staff to not hesitate reporting safety concerns to bodies such as the CQC, NMC and GMC as the staff here forget that it is patient's lives on the line. Do not accept anything but excellent care for mental health, as it is the only way for services to improve.
