I was let down by Glan Clwyd a number of times during my visit for a routine emergency operation in the following ways: I felt I was not taken seriously by the first triage nurse I saw. Failure to administer the intravenous fluids I required once admitted onto the SAU. The loss of my COVID test and my surgical consent form, which only became apparent when I was collected for surgery. Loss of blood samples while I was on the ward. Unsympathetic treatment from some of the consultants and a phlebotomist. The onus was on me to ask someone to aspirate me every four hours. I felt I had to ask what I was being given intravenously, to make sure I was having the right drugs. Overhearing consultants talking about me and other patients. It was a small ward, we can all hear you. Failure to provide me with any sort of nutrition as I was not allowed to eat, resulting in a weight loss of about a stone over the two weeks. Being told to keep an eye on one of the patients during the night (she’d tried to have a cigarette). Lack of useful information on discharge and failure to inform me I’d been stapled and where and when I could get them removed. Lack of follow up when I contacted PAL about my experience. Overall, my experience as a patient of Glan Clwyd was a very poor one and did not fill me with confidence should I ever need to go back there.
