I recently required an operation at Epsom General Hospital. I cannot speak highly enough concerning the level of care I received, from my first contact with admissions, who were very helpful , thru to my Pre Operative appointment, then the various outpatient departments and up onto the ward. On the wards, the level of care couldn’t be faltered; the nurses were professional, friendly, considerate and kind.
I have only one area that I feel needs improvement, and that is the automated ‘reminder’ of an upcoming appointment. On answering the phone a long pause was first experienced, leading me to think that the caller had hung up. This was followed by a chiming sound, which had me thinking it was someone selling something! I was just about to hang up myself, when a recorded voice message alerted me for the need to confirm my appointment. If the introduction to this call could be improved the service would be ideal.
Continuing on with a positive note, I was also offered an opportunity to attend a two hour course on how to maintain my health after the operation, this was invaluable, and a service that not only educated me, but offered me the chance to maintain my health over the longer term – truly forward thinking!
This is the first time I have used the NHS, and I was truly impressed with my level of care, thank you.
I had my first child at Epsom Hospital on the 3rd December. The Early Pregnancy Department were amazing and during labour I received such amazing care from Jo the Midwife in the Labour suite. After suffering a post cesearean hemorrhage and losing 7ltrs of blood words cannot describe how professional and calm the labour ward staff were and how encouraging they were at such a scary time. Miss Ammar is an absolute gem, the world needs more amazing people like her!
After my blood transfusion and being sent to Intensive Care, the treatment I received was impeccable. Sheila ensured I was reunited with my son at the earliest opportunity and helped wash and cloth me. Thank you.
All the midwives on the Simon Stewart ward again were amazing and caring and did their upmost to ensure that everything would be ok which it was.
My experience at Epsom may have been a traumatic one due to my labour but the staff that cared for me were angels!
Thank you for everything you are spectacular
I was in hospital for 3 days and was looked after very well. I had my own room and bathroom which was amazing. I was on Swift ward for short term and day patients and cannot fault it. It was quiet and calming which certainly helped with my recovery
Epsom Hospital has always given us great care and the staff have looked after us in a timely and considerate way.
Phone reminder for appointments is a godsend!
I recently gave birth to my first child in Epsom General Hospital. I stayed in hospital longer than expected due to complications. I found all the staff very caring, attentive and hard working. In particular Sue Gardiner (my midwife) was amazing. She was incredibly kind, caring and reassuring. Unfortunately, the birth didn't go as planned and I ended up having an emergency Caesarian. Sue was fantastic and supported me throughout. I felt really lucky to have her as my midwife.
I am very grateful to all the staff for their professionalism, kindness and caring attitude.
I was really pleasantly surprised by my hospital stay. I was surprised that I had my own room, with an en suite bathroom. The view was beautiful, as because it was on the fifth floor I could see out over the buildings. Unfortunately I had a five and a half hour wait between my arrival and actual operation, but at least I was waiting in a nice environment. The ward was very quiet and peaceful. I was especially impressed with the kindness of the irish student nurse (I think her name was Laura?) who looked after me during the day. She obviously has a genuine interest in the patients that she looks after. I have no fear of hospitals as a result of my stay, and actually left with a pleasant feeling about the whole thing.
I found that after returning to the ward following my operation,, there didnt seem to many nurses around, i wasnt offered a drink or anything to eat for a long time , and before lights off wasnt asked if I wanted to have a wash or freshen up.. and felt grubby , I was still on sheet from theatre... I appreciate they all are doing their best and am grateful for the care I did recieved,
I was once again disappointed in the aftercare and the lack of attention in the hospital.I believe the hospital staff still lack to understand that they are dealing with human beings not NUMBERS.
While I was slightly disappointed and a more than a tad concerned that the hospital managed to 'forget' to send the results from my ultrasound scan and (cancer marker...) blood test to my GP until I prompted them to do so a whole month later (even though my scan results were marked as 'Urgent') I cannot fault the specialist (Dr Ammar) I was referred to, she was absolutely fantastic.
The hospital is clean, the staff are smiling, friendly, professional and on the whole, very good (apart from the one nurse who couldn't work out that an in-ear thermometer has to go INTO the ear... ...and told me that I'd be in hospital for three to five days even though I was booked for day surgery. Oh, and told my Mum on the phone that I was still in theatre even though I was back on the ward, awake and could hear the conversation and could have waved to her from my bed...)
But overall, my (short) stay in the hospital for the actual surgery was very efficient and I'd like to thank all the staff (even the dopey nurse) for all their help, support and kindness.
all the staff that i saw at Epsom were very caring and supportive. the wards were cleaned every day and sheets changed so you felt clean and cared for. i had a brief stay there and was pleased by their standards
