I have attended this service several times within the last month for pyelonephritis. Each and every time the GPS/Nurse Practitioners did everything that they could to ensure that my treatment was handled appropriately. They contacted the surgical team and urology team and managed to get me an appointment at ESAC, or seen by the surgeons in A&E. as I have had a urine culture sent off, and multiple antibiotics have been ineffective, they contacted the on call biochemist for advice as per the results of my cultures.

Suggested improvements
The time of the appointment wasn’t the time I was seen. I had to wait two hours since the time of the appointment, I understand that they are extremely busy and the needs of other patients were greater however I was rocking due to the agony in which I was in. The GPs at this service are unable to access ICE which means that they are unable to look at test results (in my case; CRP, White Cell Count and Urine Culture) which therefore delays treatment as they have to speak to the on call biochemist. The GPs at this service don’t have access to the hospitals internal phone system meaning that they are unable to directly bleep medical/surgical teams to review patients. There is often a long queue to get through to switchboard which then therefore delays patient care especially when a prompt senior review is required.
