22nd April 2022

I have a long standing condition (Gout) and occasionally have a attack that is excruciating painful. This is rectified by a short prescription of colchicine. As my GP surgery was only able to offer a prescription in 72 hours I rang 111 to see if a emergency doctor could offer a emergency prescription ( As done previously about 2 years ago) I rang at 5 pm. The doctor rang back at 11.20 pm and offered an appointment at 12.30. On arrival there were approx 12 people already waiting. !!!!!!! To be told there was only 1 doctor and to bear with us. At 1.30 as I had been at work since 5.00 am that day I cancelled the appointment and returned home.

Suggested improvements
Don’t offer appointments just to satisfy your tick box culture of showing a response has been made. Using some poor frontline staff to keep repeating parrot fashion of bear with us and the appointment time is totally redundant. The experience has left me totally disappointed with the system.Offering appointments that are almost fiction does nothing to make the public have any empathy with the thankless task. If I had been told after waiting 6 hours for a return call that the appointment was going to be another 4 hour wait I could have declined and waited the 72 hrs in pain for my prescription. Thankfully 3 days of excruciating pain is now being treated.
