I attended my local A&E on Bank Holiday Monday due to severe pain under my left rib. Following triage I was told to attend the urgent treatment centre where I saw an "Emergency Department Doctor" called "Alice" who we later found out was actually called April, despite introducing herself to us as Alice for some unknown reason. I explained what I was experiencing and was told not to worry as I "have no organs in the left hand side of my abdomen". I said I was a Nurse myself and I'm pretty sure the tail of my pancreas and my spleen are among the organs in my left upper quadrant to which the "doctor" laughed and said to me "I can't believe you're a nurse and you thought the pancreas is on the left hand side when it is actually on the right". I was told I probably had food poisoning?! Despite not having any symptoms that indicated food poisoning. I was then told to go home and contact my GP if I didn't feel any better as "this isn't a medical emergency". I then left with my husband and upon leaving the hospital became very upset and my husband agreed we needed to go back in and get a second opinion. I returned to the Urgent care centre and requested to see an alternative practitioner. I was told no one would see me and I would have to go back through A&E. I refused and asked the receptionist to call the shift manager which she did. I was told to sit and wait. After a short amount of time the same "doctor" came out and asked me in the waiting room what the problem was. I asked if we could talk in a side room. My husband and I expressed our concerns and asked if we could see someone else for a second opinion as we couldn't understand why she had said I have no organs on the left hand side of my body. The "doctor" said we were wrong and all the Google images of the human anatomy were wrong?! That they "weren't real life". We then got told she couldn't access my records now as I had left and she couldn't go back onto them to get anyone to see me. She said she would print off my consultation and take me back to A&E to help speed up me being seen by another doctor. She then handed my paperwork to the triage nurse, began whispering in her ear. And laughing with the nurse. I was then told to go sit and wait but I wouldn't be seen quicker. I then asked the nurse for my records and said I would leave and seek advice from a private practitioner. I then attended a private clinic and was told I had infact got acute pancreatitis.

Suggested improvements
Everything could have been better from beginning to end the care I received was unacceptable.
