I went to the urgent treatment centre beforehand for an appointment to be left with over a 6 hour wait. I was told on the phone by a clinician that I had an appointment which would be stuck to as close as possible. Because I couldn’t wait due to childcare issues, I got put back on the phone call list. I was told by the clinician that the plan would be to refer me to ESAC. A clinician called me, and told me that I should call the same day health centre and that the plan would be, to refer me to ESAC. I called the same day health centre and went though an assessment where I was told I would get a call back. I got a call back from a lady who told me to come in at 2pm and I DEFINITELY would be seen and would be referred to ESAC. I went at 2pm and was pleasantly surprised with the wait time. Then, when I entered the room hunched over and crying in pain- the lady didn’t even feel my stomach or assess me in any way shape or form. She just said I was giving the wrong information, that ESAC are full and are no under any circumstances taking referrals AND THAT THEY DO NOT REFER TO ESAC FROM THAT PRACTICE AND THE ONLY WAY IS TO GO THROUGH A&E She didn’t give me pain medication, simply told me to wait in a&e I was in that much pain, I did go to a&e and waited hours on end to be told “I don’t know why the same day health centre hadn’t referred you to ESAC themselves” so they did it. Nhs money wasted, my time wasted whilst I was in absolute agony. I thought the woman at the same day health centre seemed cold, uninterested and just didn’t care for my health and well-being. I know that the same day health centre can refer to ESAC because weeks earlier, I had a friend at work that was referred to ESAC from the same building.

Suggested improvements
If the lady would have felt my stomach and showed some interest, an opinion on what she may think it was or some advice for the pain or pain medication offered and showed some actual care and attention I would have felt better about her saying she couldn’t refer me. If they were full or she felt I didn’t need referring I would rather her be honest rather than her say “we don’t refer to ESAC from here” when I KNOW they do.
