I had to wait about 5hrs for my appointment, which I understand due to constraints. However when I got there I was asked for a urine sample, completely unnecessary for the reason I was there. I was seen by a nurse practitioner who advised there was nothing she could prescribe and I required either A&E or wait until Monday to try and see my gp. I was forced to attend A&E to see a dr who immediately recognised that I had a severe and chronic problem that required medication I was advised couldn't be prescribed by the out of hours service. I tried to avoid using A&E having been questioned by the out of hours service before an appointment was granted. It should have been clear enough to recognise that I needed a dr who could have helped. This was not the case.

Suggested improvements
To stop wasting a patients time when there is a genuine problem that required immediate treatment. The service is you promote does not meet the needs of patients with a real problem and the A&E department is busy busy busy. I won't deny that I am appalled by the methods used to assess patients over the phone.
