The initial assessment was very thorough and understood fully our needs even to taking her badged cardigan off before meeting my dad. my father did not want to know he was dying and was very aware of what Cynthia Spencer meant as my mother died in the hospice. I explained this to the nurse who came as a result of the assessment. She said she would have to tell my dad if asked where she was from (he would not have asked her). We agreed to this, but she met my dad wearing a jacket with a large Cynthia Spencer badge on the front, which my dad noticed straight away, he became very agitated later in the day and died the next morning.

Response from Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the distress caused by staff wearing a cardigan with a logo on. Having looked into this, regular staff do not wear Hospice logo’d cardigans, but some of our Bank staff do. We will ensure that all staff supporting Hospice at Home do not wear clothing with logo’s on when entering patients homes and we apologise that this happened.
