The support I received while caring for my terminally I’ll husband was invaluable. It enabled me to take breaks which I definitely needed. The only downside was not knowing until the actual day when someone would be available to sit with him, so it wasn’t possible to plan ahead. However I appreciate that staff resources are limited and there are others needing help.

Suggested improvements
I am not sure whether or not your service covers the 4x daily nursing support given by a company who I think were based at Kings Heath. The staff were very good and caring with my husband, but there were a few problems when they were very late or not arriving and I had to phone them. Also the staff started off recording information on their phones rather than on paper which meant information wasn’t available to be read by day time sitters or Marie Curie nurses at night.

Response from Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Thank you for your feedback. We accept it is very difficult for some patients and carers with the service only providing availability on the day or the day before. We are trying to look at how we can provide more planned support to patients and there is further work ongoing to explore this. In response to the question about carers 4 times a day, this is not something we are responsible for, this would have been organised through Continuing Healthcare Funding, so feedback direct to the agency would be the most appropriate way of doing this. We cnanot provide the feedback as this response is anonymous, therefore we have no way of identifying the patient or the agency used to provide the care
