Review of Therapy for You (NHS Talking Therapies) NE Essex
25th October 2022

My therapist was kind and the skills they taught me to cope with my OCD have had a very positive impact on my life. There was a lot of disruption to my appointments which wasn't always communicated well and at times heightened my anxiety. The focus on my OCD was great but I feel let down by the ADHD team as after months of waiting for an assignment I've still not been contacted by them. This meant that my therapist was reluctant to explore my suspected ADHD and now, post discharge, I am still facing challenges in life related to what I suspect is ADHD. Overall, I am pleased I sort out and hope to receive my assessment and further support in relation to ADHD soon

Suggested improvements
Communication was lacking when my therapist had to unexpectedly take leave. Combined with their planned leave, I was left without support for many weeks. The regular, and sometimes long, breaks between treatment were disruptive and left me feeling more anxious. My therapist believed their supervisor had been in contact with me but this was not the case. Communication beyond a generic email would have been helpful. The diagnosis and treatment I received for OCD was very beneficial but I felt my concerns about having undiagnosed ADHD were disregard whilst I waited for an assessment. It has been many months and I have not had any update on when this assessment will occur. Whilst I feel I have better control over my OCD, I feel ADHD is still having a big impact on me and my anxiety. I feel it would have been beneficial to look at both conditions during my sessions and I think communication between your various teams OCD/ASD/ADHD/assigned therapist would have been helpful.
