Although every member of staff was extremely polite I found it very superficial , almost robotic. I needed an ultrasound scan of my abdomen and could not be fitted in for three hours. I thought this was too long to wait so I left without having it. I did try make another appointment, which was convenient for me, while I was there but there did not appear to be any appointments at 12 or 1 pm for many weeks to come. In the end I went home. I felt like the staff thought I was a nuisance for not accepting the appointments that were offered. Once I got home I rang to make the appointment for an ultrasound,. The person who answered the phone said it was booked for 2.30 that day. I explained I had just been to the outpatients and that the appointment had been cancelled as I could not wait that long. The person said let me check . They rang me back and said I have checked with the medical secretary and you have to keep the appointment today . I explained again the appointment had been cancelled and I was now at home. In the end another appointment was made for many weeks to come as yet again no appointments for 12 or 1 pm. I have never had so much trouble booking any appointment for an ultrasound at a place or time of that was convenient for me.

Suggested improvements
I found the whole experience awful. I am now dreading coming back to your facility. I have now got reservations ringing me and emailing me constantly trying to book my endoscopy. What for? I can,t have it until I have the results of the ultrasound. I may not need it at all depending on the results of the ultrasound which is not going to be performed for a number of weeks. One more point. I have never been to a consultation and had to have my BP, weight and height done routinely. I was seeing a gastroenterologist. What was the clinical reason for this being performed. It seemed that everyone who walked through the door has it done. Finally do you think some hooks can be put on the toilet doors.I had no where to hang my coat or handbag. I refused to put them on the ground. Talk about infection risk. Awful. Struggling to go to the toilet with all my belongings in my hand.

The phelobotomist was lovely and Dr Charles Murray was excellent. I only wish I could see him at a different hospital. On the whole I think the staff should do a secondment at the Wellington Hospital and see how it’s done properly.
