These poor reviews are only relevant to the person who I saw for the pre-op assessment, not the reception staff or the phlebotomy people.

Suggested improvements
Recruit people with a decent bedside manner.

I attended for a pre-operation assessment. I was kept waiting 15 minutes. Not a problem in itself but there was no apology at all from the woman who eventually saw me. I entered a room with three chairs and a table. She didn’t tell me where to sit or put my coat so I was left standing not knowing where to sit. That’s down to a lack of manners. Then she checked my name and my surgeon, whose name she kept getting wrong. Instead of acknowledging this she just ignored me when I told her the correct name and kept repeating the wrong name. Then she asked me a series of questions about my lifestyle and, midway through this she appeared to glitch. Out of nowhere, she told me her name. It was completely bizarre. It was as if she was a robot that got stuck and forgot what she was saying or where she was and reset. She glitched. No other way to explain it. I then had an ECG, during which she looked confused and muttered various questions as to whether I had any previous heart problems like a murmur or palpitations but without any explanation and didn’t answer my question as to why she was looking confused. Had I not had a better experience with the people afterwards who took blood (who seemed human and pleasant) and my consultant, who has a decent (as expected) bedside manner, I’d have been extremely concerned about the Cleveland’s staffing and my upcoming surgery. Overall, a pretty unpleasant experience.
