The doctors, staff and care were all wonderful. The staff in the operating theatre who were able to do so came over to introduce themselves to me and say hello which made me feel very welcome and feel that I was in good hands. I only gave four stars for room comfort because my room was very chilly almost all the time and I once woke up almost shivering. The nurses did did turn my room temperature up a bit and gave me some blankets but it was generally pretty cold. When I went to the operating theatre, I was told that the area was cold because of all the machines – which I understood. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the whole building. I assume that the reason I was not told the cost of treatment was that it is being covered by my BUPA. However, I would like to know the cost purely out of curiosity!

Suggested improvements
Everything good; my comments about the room temperature are rather trivial as the healthcare was superb. My only suggestion is that two or three of the papier-maché urinary bottles should be left either beside the patient on the bed or within arms' reach. A couple of times, I could not find one because they had been left on the other side of the room and I couldn't reach them because of all the monitor wires stuck to my body. This resulted in a couple of slight leaks which the nurses said they didn't mind but Which I'm sure they didn't enjoy cleaning up! Embarrassing for me and I'd rather not give them that extra work.

Professor Simon Redwood was fantastic. It was a pleasure to meet him and he was very inspiring and cheerful and gave me confidence during the surgery. His skill has improved my life. In fact all the doctors and nurses gave me great confidence in their skill and were absolutely wonderful. I shall be writing to all of them personally to thank them properly.

I have absolutely no complaints about the Cleveland Clinic because all of the staff were wonderful and the treatment has improved my life. Over the next couple of weeks, I shall be writing to all of the staff who looked after me to thank them for their kindness. All the nurses were great and extremely cheery so it was a pleasure to see them every time they came into my room. All the admin staff were helpful particularly Eric (of the Reservations Team) who also came up to visit me as I said it would be nice to meet him because he had been so helpful. I had asked Eric whether the catering team might be able to provide some Japanese food, (which I prefer as it is very light and I can eat it with one hand) although I was rather loath to do so as I did not want to give them extra work, but Eric took the trouble to ask the chef who agreed to do this for me. I was absolutely amazed that this was done so I would like you to pass on my thanks again to the chef – amazing! The catering team did a really good job. Apart from the fact that I was in hospital, it was a great experience!
