Professional and compassionate care in both IC(third floor) and before and after bypass surgery on the 5th floor. Nurses made me feel as comfortable as possible. This was particularly important during the night when I was often in a lot of pain.

Suggested improvements
I thought the general standard of food was good and the service staff were extremely polite and helpful in trying to find suitable choices for me. However, I think you need to make more provision for patients feeling the effects of pain relief medication on appetite (nausea/sickness etc). More choice of soups/yoghurts/very light meals in small portions (you can't eat the same chicken soup every day). I wasted a lot of food because I could only eat a few mouthfuls at a time. The advice on nutrition was at odds with some of the advice from nursing staff and I felt it was sometimes a bit patronising, although I appreciate that the person giving it had my best interests at heart. Physios were very helpful, but didn't always liaise with nursing staff about what was going on medically. On one occasion got me up at the wrong time and made me very sick from over exertion. Once I realised that it was important to balance getting up and about with physical limitations, I felt able to suggest rescheduling sessions if I felt they were at the wrong time..

Mr Quarto gave very good pre-op diagnosis and advice. I was wary of having care in a new and as yet little reviewed hospital, but he reassured me about the facilities and after care. Made me feel very confident about his ability to operate. Good bedside manner in after care. I was pleased that he came to see how I was several times after the op, even though I was being seen by the hospital doctors on a daily basis.

The beautiful environment and views from the Grosvenor Road room; the exceptional staff (doctors, nurses, radiographers, catering, cleaners, porters, reception). I particularly liked the fact that the white board in the room was used to introduce staff coming on duty, so that I could address them by name. Their daily 'aims' messages were very helpful. The help I had from Jessica Bivand both in preparation for the operation and her attention to after care (suggestions for post surgery bras/care at home/rehab classes. She is an exceptionally warm and competent clinical nurse specialist.
