My daughter collected me to take me home by taxi. We were given all the medication by the pharmacy department in a bag with a list of all the pills. We were half way home ( £20 already on the metre ) when pharmacy called to say they forgot one of the pills so we had to go all the way back and I was so upset. We collected the forgotten pills and went home. Once there we took a long look at the list and I realised that one of my diuretics was listed as a morning dose when the specialist clearly said to me it was an evening dose. My daughter called pharmacy department who apologised for their mistake but if I, an 84 year old who had just been in hospital, had my lungs filled with too much fluids given to me, felt so ill, can remember what I was told then it leaves me aghast as to what could have happened to me if I took these pills at the wrong time of day! I was truly flabbergasted. It’s not my job to be on the ball when I had been so poorly. It’s the job of the pharmacy department to check, double check and triple check if needs be. I wouldn’t have been so poorly in hospital if they hadn’t overloaded me with fluids that ended up filling my lungs. I was only expected to stay one night but couldn’t go home until my lungs had emptied and I ended up staying longer than I had expected. I will take the extra £20 taxi fare off my extras bill as I think your pharmacy department should pay for their error.

Suggested improvements
All in all I must say the nurses and the doctors were absolutely wonderful. The catering was appalling and on occasion inedible. For instance when I had an omelette which was like eating rubber and I’ve now told you all about the pharmacy department.

I have a long history with my consultant and he was and has always been very sympathetic and understanding

The amazing nursing staff and the doctors and specialists were all outstanding
