From Professor Varma to the housekeeping team, everyone was friendly and kindly. I had occasion to request frequent help with a bed pan, no-one complained although this was not an easy procedure as I couldn't sit up. It was lovely to have staff that had time for a friendly word.

Suggested improvements
The bedpans as mentioned above were a nightmare, both for me and the nurses. They broke easily and it was almost impossible to place them properly when I was unable to sit up. Using two at a time may make them stronger. I learned that the blinds were a common complaint as they were like the men in the Grand Old Duke of York; they were either up or down, and could not be halted halfway. I think the addition of a small stool in the bathroom, would be so useful, either to put one's clothes on or one's bottom whilst trying to get dressed. It's not always easy to balance on one leg!

He explained the procedure and the things that might go wrong.

the whole ethos of the Cleveland made it a positive experience for me.
