Attention from nurses was so supportive and attentive. During the night i felt safe and cared for. During the day nurses were often very busy, but went above and beyond to care for me. Unfortunately this professionalism and care did not carry over to the catering team and the pharmacy. After being returned to my room post op, i had to request to be given some food as i had not eaten in 24 hours. Two members of the catering team arrived to take my order and my partner and i both commented on how terrible one of the staffs bedside manner was. She was very blunt and abrupt and as i was still under the influence of general i found her manner to be unusual. After an hour she returned to my room to ask how my meal was, but my meal had not arrived. I ordered a simple soup and apple juice. Another 30mins went by and still no meal and no explanation. Without the help of my partner and the charge nurse, i have little faith that my meal would have ever arrived. My toilet broke so my room was moved and at 17:30 the same woman returned to my door to take my order as the physio was leaving. The physio invited her in, and she said, "Oh no, I'll come back she needs something special." No one returned for an hour and i was left feeling like i had done something wrong. Again, i had to put in multiple requests with the charge nurse to chase. At this point, head of catering craig came to my room to personally take my dinner order. I complained about the attitude and service and he assured me it wouldn't happen again. Another 2 hours passed and still no food. At 8pm the same lady returned to take my order and told me that ordering hours close at 7:30. My evening meal arrived at 9pm. This was extremely distressing, i felt disrepected, made to feel anxious about the care i could expect from the hospital and exhausted by the effort it took to get a meal. On the last day, i waited for 6 hours to receive my medication from the pharmacy. The neurologist nurse Anders and doctor George both advised i should be staying another night, when i aksed about my insurance they retracted that decision as they did not want to make the phone call for me. This decision was made at 2pm, i was then left to wait until 6 pm for the pharmacy to bring me my medication and an additional 2 hours to be discharged. This left me feeling once again like there was no care or thought put into the experience of the patient. And above all a compelte lack of communication and desire to look after me.
