I had a surgical procedure with general anaesthetic as a day case. The porters who greeted me upon arrival were exceptional. Professional, courteous, helpful and friendly. I observed some patients being greeted who seemed quite dismissive of them, yet they still remained courteous, professional and friendly. My nurse, Rebecca W, was also exceptional. Very efficient, calm and friendly. I also recall a lovely nurse called Liana, who went to great trouble to reassure me as I was very nervous. The young gentleman in the anaesthesia room who greeted me was lovely and very calming. All of the staff I encountered were just lovely and I felt very reassured.

Suggested improvements
I felt really cold in the room before going down to theatre but there didn't appear to be any way of warming the room. The long walk from the room (107) to the operating theatre was rather stark and intimidating, which doesn't help at all if you're a very nervous patient as I am. It feels abit like you're walking through the service corridors of a hotel. The food was adequate, but perhaps the presentation could be improved - minor point though. The young lady on reception (after the main reception on high stools) was not terribly welcoming, and came across as brusque and rather grumpy, which was in stark contrast to most every other member of staff I encountered. The lady who actually checked me in was lovely though and very professional. My partner who accompanied and stayed with me, was not given a lanyard, or access badge, so was challenged by security when trying to go back up to my room after visiting the downstairs cafe whilst I was in surgery. It is good that security is on the ball, but he felt he could have been dealt with far more politely. It was necessary for our nurse to come down and rescue him!

I am a very nervous patient. I had read extremely good reviews about Mr Hughes so was confident that all would be fine.

Definitely my nurse, Rebecca. (Room 107)
