I sat and watched as the nurses carried out their essential duties. The lack of warmth and ability to communicate with positivity was obvious in many of the staff. This makes me sad and I wonder why the chosen vocation is so disagreeable to them. My advice would be don't struggle on with a job working with vulnerable people if they irritate you each time you ask for something. There were a few lovely nurses but not enough to ensure a friendly face was seen on every shift. Please take the time to reassure and be kind to people. Only then can you really say you treat all the patients with respect. There were several occasions when my relatives asked for something for me and they felt like they were a nuisance. My family also work in the care sector so we sympathise with your workload, really we do, and we sing nurses praises but for those of you who so obviously see your shift as a list of tasks, instead of patient centred care work then you have it all wrong . One day you will be the older person sat praying that the 'nice nurse' is on the shift.
