Everything about my care was excellent and either met or superseded my expectations. I arrived at 6.45 am to ensure I was on time for my day case surgery and was greeted by a pleasant person on reception who asked me to make myself comfortable and that he would show us to the ward at 7. The reception area was comfortable and the TV was a welcome distraction. Following arriving on the ward I and the other patients received a very warm welcome to the ward along with key information for us and any relatives with us. I felt privalaged to be taken to a side room pre-op, and thought that all areas looked very clean and well organised. I changed into 2 sets of robes which meant that my dignity was maintained (I had previously expected to have a gown which would have left my rear exposed despite the white almost see through paper pants). All staff knocked on the door before entering and introduced themselves once invited in, which also helped me to feel comfortable. I was then seen by the Senior Charge Nurse, an Anaesthetist, my Consultant and one of his surgical team to ensure all had been completed, checked and that I was happy and ready for my operation. My Physio showed me how to use crutches for non and partial weight bearing including how to go up steps. I was made to feel at complete ease knowing that they were all experts, each helping with my treatment and care. All of the staff were clear with the information, made it easy for me to understand and gave me plenty of opportunities to ask questions along the way. After the operation once I came round from the Anaesthetic I was glad to be offered food and drink which despite feeling a little nauseous was exactly what I needed. Later my Consultant came to see me, told me my operation was successful and also showed the loose foreign bodies removed from my ankle joint. I was later discharged with clear instructions on what to do next, when to take my medicines and a final check that I was happy with my crutches. I was also given my appointment to see my Consultant for my 2 week post op check as part of my discharge, which I thought was very good. The charge nurse was kind enough to wheel me down to main reception as my wife was already carrying our baby and would have struggled to wheel me down. He then re-affirmed what to do if I was worried about my condition at home and who to call. My overall experience was excellent and I would be more than happy to recommend the services at Chapel Allerton.
