This was my first ever experience of a sexual health clinic. I felt really awkward when I first walked in - I did not know what to expect but I expected privacy. There was no reception in the typical sense, instead there was a room of about 3-4 people with an A4 reception sign.
Everyone was friendly and courteous however no one took the time to explain the process , they asked very intrusive questions around sexual behaviour as if it’s normal. I expected these questions having walked into a sexual health clinic however I did not expect to answer them in the context I did. I would have liked to see more sensitivity and empathy from the staff especially during the examination.
Also, I had 2 members of staff during my examination - I left the room to give my urine sample and when I came back there was a 2nd member of staff. No reason or explanation was given for her presence - this made me feel awkward and I thought it was unprofessional.
I was just asked load of questions, they took my blood and urine sample and said I could leave. An explanation around this would made me feel comfortable and valued.
