Once treatment was started everything was absolutely first class, the surgeon, the nurses, everything. However the long wait was difficult to deal with.

From the minute I arrived everyone made me feel very welcome and totally at ease. They made me feel that I was the most important person in the hospital

Even though the hospital is 160 years old it is still clean and well maintained and operating areas are modern and well equipped.

I attended a dermatology appointment today to take a look at a worrying area of my skin. The doctor checked the whole of my body, particularly the suspicious area. They prescribed me some cream to apply to areas of sun damage, then booked me in to have an excision of the skin lesion which I was worried about. Amazingly, they managed to do the excision the same day under local anaesthetic, with minimal waiting. All of the team that saw me were very informative, courteous and professional. First class treatment.

Very bad experience today at Brighton General hospital. I been referred last August to the dermatology department. I had a lesion on my back, which had multiple colours. Clinical photographs recommended the lesion to be removed and examined under the microscope. After waiting for many months, I finally got an appointment today to remove the lesion. I took a day off my work and went today to be removed. I waited in the waiting room for hours and when I been called at last the dermatologist said, the lesion is fine and she won't remove it for me, despite the photograph that showed clearly that there is something wrong! Very unhelpful and a waste of time. Very careless . I will go to remove it privately and ask for a biopsy. I won't recomend Brighton General hospital. Very bad! Worst hospital ever. I' m gonna mention that to my GP. Such a waste of time and very bad experience.

Long wait for treatment reflecting current funding and resource constraints in the NHS

During my treatment for a skin cancer I cannot thank the staff enough for the tremendous treatment I received. Everyone were very friendly and I would say that the care I received was exceptional. I must commend my surgeon Mr Drake and also the staff - particularly Adrian, the Staff Nurse, who was mainly responsible subsequently for my dressings.

Although an older hospital. Brighton general is well maintained and the staff at all levels that I met were friendly and reassuring.

Mr. Drake was absolutely first-class. He fully explained to me what the procedure was going to be and carried out the procedure in a highly professional manner. He was fully supported by an excellent team, who were all extremely patient and helpful. I am extremely grateful to Sussex Dermatology for the successful operation.
