Review of Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (OSRU)

Before coming to Abingdon I had heard how good the unit was in helping stroke suffers to recover. However the staff here have exceeded my expectations. Nothing was too much trouble for them in aiding my recovery. The positive attitude of the staff fills one full of hope and contributed greatly to my recovery.

The staff always smiling, very professional and compassionate. They always get involved with you as a person. They give you connection, not just one member of staff but the whole team. My Winifred when on duty will come and say hello. Lana is absolutely wonderful. You cannot explain in words how amazing they all are. I love them to bits. I want to go home, but I don’t want to leave my friends.

Sometimes on their part, I don’t think staff get long enough breaks. They work long hours but not long enough breaks. There’s sometimes a short on equipment which is not the staffs fault. Staff never complain. Check their breaks, sometimes when they are doing something with a patient they get told to go on break but they wait till they’re finished with the patient then go. Staff should also be aloud to be wearing long sleeves, I worry about the, getting cold. I worry about staff, they worry too much about their patients and not look after themselves.

That I actually got to see a person.

As it is an out of hours service nothing can be followed up. So apart from being prescribed drugs there is zero the doctor can do.
No bloods taken
No urine sample sent off
Wouldn’t it be best to utilise this service and get things moving forward?

The staff were very pleasant.
Suggested improvements
Waiting outside in the cold for unit to open wasn’t good, especially for elderly or infirm. Car park wasn’t accepting card payment, so had to find enough cash, as unsure of how long appt would take, payment on exit would be much better.
