Hospital and staff superb. Big criticism though of switchboard info. My wife and I went to our local GP (Chipping Norton) first thing Monday morning as I had pains in chest and felt very unwell. He referred me to EMU at Witney and we heard all the telephone conversation and details and that is where we were to expected. My wife then drove me to Witney (still in pain). When we got there I was short of breath but we parked and walked across to Reception to be told EMU Witney was "closed " !!!! and that we wd. have to now drive to Abingdon. This we did - again huge parking difficulty which meant another long walk which I found very difficult. Once in the EMU at Abingdon all my care and attention was superb. BUT It is a day neither my wife nor I will forget in a hurry. We drove miles all of it taking valuable time and increasing anxiety about my condition. WHY did no one on the NHS switchboard KNOW that Witney was closed? It is unacceptable to ask people to drive all over the county and I would like a response to this please. My family want to take it further.............. By the way, Chipping Norton is local to me and Abingdon is right across the county. Lord only knows what my poor wife's blood pressure was by the time we got seen.

Response from Abingdon Community Hospital

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your recent experience of the EMU service. We are very sorry to hear that your experience was less than positive and that there has been a delay in responding to your comments. We want to investigate this further and in order to do so, it would be really useful to know some more details. We would be extremely grateful if you could contact Sarah Woods in the PALS team. Tel 08003287971 to provide more information and your concerns will then be investigated by the Modern Matron with responsibility for the EMU. Please accept our apologies and please do contact us.
