After I called 111, the GP who rang back listened and reassured me. She asked useful questions about my sons condition and booked us the next available appointment at Abingdon GP OOH which was just over an hour later. The GP who saw us at base was kind and had a lovely manner with my 1 Yr old. He gave my son time to "warm up" before examining him and talked to him directly, as well as us, throughout. He gave us a clear plan and sent the prescription directly to the nearest open pharmacy.

Suggested improvements
It was very busy when we arrived at Abingdon on a Saturday evening for our booked appointment and we waited for 40 minutes after our booked time (55 minutes after arrival) to see the gp. It would have been useful to have been told that there could be a delay. Luckily I had brought lots of toys/ books to help distract my very tired and in pain 1 Yr old but it could have been a difficult wait! Also, the nearest OOH pharmacy was 30 mins from Abingdon (in the opposite direction for us) and although this didn't negatively impact us as I had driven and could then drive to cowley, I really felt for the people who had arrived by taxi and then needed to arrange an expensive onwards journey. Is there nothing that can be done more locally to support OOH dispensing??
