I am not a person to ever admit to needing to see a doctor. So to be palmed off by a receptionist to visit the local pharmacy was an insult. After buying a product that was recommended to me by the receptionist turned out to be utterly useless my wife phoned the surgery on my behalf and I got an emergency appointment to see a doctor who prescribed an antibiotic. After taking the medication I was violently sick and became delirious and collapsed resulting in being taken to hospital in an ambulance. It turns out after proper examination that I actually have a chest infection. After being on intravenous drip of antibiotics things have improved dramatically. The point I am making is I originally called the surgery hoping to see a doctor having told the receptionist I think I need antibiotics only to be told I need to go to the local pharmacy. This is not acceptable. A receptionist should not be making decisions about my or anyones health over the phone.

Suggested improvements
Give me an appointment to see a doctor when I ask for one
