I can only speak as a caller to the surgery as I have not yet had cause to consult any of the doctors or ancillary medical personnel. However, I would say that being greeted with a smile at reception is very important. It can help to create a good initial impression (no-one liked a sour-expression) and possibly assist potential patients to relax. Just smile, and look as if you genuinely want to help (even if it's the last thing you feel like!)
