I know it's not always easy to get through to the surgery but you just have to persevere. Obviously if your symptoms are serious go to A&E. The NHS is under tremendous strain atm so need to be, in my opinion, cut some slack !

Not sure really that you could. I suppose answering the phone quicker would mean employing more staff/getting more phone lines. That's the only thing I can think of.
