My family and I moved to Sherborne 7 months ago and just want to truly thank the staff for the excellent attention and care that you can expect at Newlands Medical Centre. I was born at Greenwich Hospital, was raised in Enfield, before moving to Margate, Kent and have just finished 4 years studying in Wales. I have been in and out of Doctor's surgeries on a monthly basis for 8 or so years so have some ability to compare surgery standard, having been a patient at 9 different surgeries. For this reason, I have to say that I feel extremely lucky to be a patient at Newlands. Not once have i waited longer than 10 minutes to see a Nurse or a Doctor after the appointment time. I compare this with 30 - 45 minute waits in Margate and as long as 1 hour plus in Swansea. The appointments themselves have been brilliant. The staff are amazing at making you feel comfortable and I would like to particularly thank Nurse Practitioner Leah Hughes who has been truly exception. She is everything you hope to have in a health care professional and I'm sure all who have met her will agree! Her love for her work is obvious, as is the importance she holds in helping people. A credit to the surgery who diligently and regularly goes the extra mile for her patients! I also need to mention the 2 occassions where I have phoned late in the evening needing to speak to a doctor only to be told the surgery was completely booked. I explained to the Lady on the phone that it was an emergency and sensed her GEUNINE understanding and concern. She was able to organise a doctor calling me, until I could come in. These are definately staff that care! A side note If waiting times have increased over the decades you have to consider the fact that not only are people living longer, but our Aging economy means that today there are proportionally fewer working age people in the economy compared to older generations. This two factors mean that the NHS has never been as strained as it is now, (accompanied with some Tory austerity). I believe the NHS and surgeries like Newlands are only truly held together by the individuals on the ground who adore what they do and take massive pride in health care. Maybe we should give them a break every now and then, especially if its only be 15 mins...
