I am 85 years old and severely disabled with poor use of my legs and great difficulty using my arms. Yesterday I was phoned by Mitchisson Rd Surgery to collect a scan form to take to Homerton Hospital . I was told that I had to collect this form myself or give written authority for anyone else to collect it and it could not be posted to me. With great difficulty I was driven to the surgery by my carer and I was then informed that I must take this form to the hospital to have the relevant scans and it should not be posted. My carer drove me directly to Homerton Hospital where after a long walk to the correct department I was thanked for the form and was told they would contact me with an appointment to have the scans. I was very upset at this and told them that my surgery insisted that I bring the form myself and I would be given the scans straight away. They could see how upset I was and asked me to wait After a very long wait the Homerton staff did fit me in and I received the necessary scans.
I wonder why I was given such conflicting information by the surgery and the hospital. I have never before been informed that I must collect the paperwork myself and that it could not be posted to me. Mitchisson Rd surgery appear to be quite unaware of my physical condition and age. I am unable to walk without holding onto something at all times and I am in constant pain in most of my joints and I am very dependent on my carer. This event has caused me great anxiety and distress.
