Generally I have found the surgery to be very good and helpful and I am really grateful. However, I strongly feel that the receptions need training for mental health first aid. Just before Christmas I called the surgery in the midst of a mental health crisis and reception had no idea how to manage this. I appreciate it must have a been a distressing phone call to hear, however I was in an emergency state and the receptionist I spoke to was brash, firm and showed no understanding whatsoever. Thankfully after I hung up (after being told they couldn’t help me) I managed to call a friend who talked me round and essentially saved me from doing something dangerous. The result of the conversation I had with your receptionist could have been a great deal more serious. I phoned the surgery in desperate need. I was on the edge and you literally turned your backs. I think there really does need to be more training an understanding.
