I think the receptionists behaviour needs to be reviewed. I do not believe they should be asking questions about your ailments. Fine to ask if it’s urgent or not but if the doctor has asked the patient to make an appointment the receptionist should not ask the reason but make the booking.

I am sorry that you do not feel a receptionist should ask questions about your ailment - they are doing this as they have been asked to by the partners of the surgery. If you do not want to tell the a 'brief reason' for the appointment you are able to say I would prefer not to tell you. The doctors feel better prepared if they have an idea of what you are having an appointment for. For example if it is a mental health issue that will alert the reception staff to book a longer appointment
