It's far too much of a lottery. I can right in onvthe dot of 8am, be told my position in the queue, and by the time I speak to a receptionist there are no available appointments. My request might be urgent, or critical, it might not, but there seems to be no way of triaging this by the receptionist.

Suggested improvements
At some stage in an annual check-up I would have thought it appropriate for a practice nurse to ask a patient a question such as "Is there anything you are concerned about with your health?" or "Has anything changed healthwise in the last year?" Ie Proactive questions, that show interest in trying to provide a pre-emptive service to the patient. Didn't happen to me, my process was simply In, bloods, pressure, alcohol, Go.
